WENCH! @Brighton Fringe
By Felix Le Freak
Martha Tallow is always thinking sideways, smiling inside-out and waking up in other people’s business. She talks too much, loves too freely and refuses to behave. Now the village wants blood.
WENCH! is a darkly comic musical about hysteria, harlots and the stories people tell when they feel threatened. Accused of apostasy, impropriety and being generally inconvenient, Martha finds herself on trial before a community desperate to tidy her away.
Blending filthy humour with lyrical ballads, WENCH drags the witch trial into the present day without ever pinning it to a single moment. Who gets labelled unnatural? Who is shamed for desire.? Who is punished for thinking differently?
Part musical farce, part courtroom drama, part personal manifesto, WENCH skins the turnip of society to reveal the maggots beneath.
Felix Le Freak is the winner of Drag Idol UK, the author of Serving Face and the creator of shows including Fagwartz, Men and Other Problems, and Felix & Friends.

Content & Trigger Warnings
WENCH is a fantastical satire with its tongue firmly in your cheek. HOWEVER, it does contain reference to sex acts, historical violence and persecution including the hanging of so-called witches.
There is also a brief moment of low-intensity strobing in one scene. Please get in touch if you’d like to attend but step out for any moments involving flashing lights and this can be arranged.
