Playground is an experimental queer cabaret night at Love Affair Basement that takes place every two months. Artists share daring work, and the community comes to play. The event is seated, and will have low to flashy lighting (depending on the act) and loud music.
Accessibility
The venue’s main entrance faces Hackney Road. To reach the venue, visitors must ascend 12 steps, including several spiral steps. A handrail is available on one side. Inside, there is a small elevated platform before accessing the main floor.
The alternative entrance is located on Long Square Street and also serves as the fire exit. It features a shutter measuring 2150mm wide and 1920mm tall. Beyond the shutter are seven steps with a handrail on one side, leading to heavy duty double doors. This entrance is on the same level as the WCs.
There are three WCs: two with accordion doors and one slightly larger cubicle with a sliding door.
A low stimulus quiet space is available at the back of the venue, next to the LAB kitchen. This area is designed for those who need a break from noise, lighting, or crowds. It includes lower lighting, reduced noise levels, and comfortable seating. Visitors can inform a member of staff at any time if they wish to access this space.
The venue is located in a locally listed building with architectural constraints. As a result, lift or ramp access cannot be provided. The venue acknowledges that this may cause inconvenience and apologises for any difficulties this may create.
